Creating the Inclusive Lab of the future
Innovation and world-changing solutions often start in laboratories all around the world, which is why it’s so important to get the design of these spaces right.
When we create environments that are accessible and accommodating to all, it means everyone can bring their unique perspectives and expertise to the table.
Download the reportAt ARC, we’re building science and tech clusters and helping the brilliant minds based at our campuses to scale businesses that are tackling the world’s biggest challenges.
Together with HOK and the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), we’re leading the way with an industry first project to identify how together we can overcome shortcomings in current lab design and create inclusive scientific environments that allow our members to deliver life-changing science.
With HOK, we’ve created a simple checklist of recommendations to ensure environments foster innovation and allow diverse minds to thrive.
True scientific progress demands not only knowledge but spaces that support innovative thinking. Working together with HOK and UWS ensured this ground breaking project generated several important findings that should be considered when designing and creating neuroinclusive laboratory work environments.
Recognising and valuing neurodiversity in lab design ensures our members at ARC can contribute their best work, advance scientific progress, and drive excellence in research. This collaborative project supports our mission to solve the business of science, so science can change the world.
The report was launched in September 2024 at Tech BBQ in Copenhagen. The project team would like to thank everyone who completed the survey and the workshop participants for their valued insights and experience .
